About Manny Hundal

Manny Hundal is a Barrister & Solicitor in Brampton. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2013 and is licensed by the Law Society of Ontario. He practises through Hundal Law Chambers Professional Corporation and is the lawyer responsible for every file. Law clerks and, where needed, agent counsel support his files.

His practice is focused on immigration law. He also acts in insurance defence and some criminal matters.

Background

He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2013.

Why "chambers"

Chambers is the old word for a lawyer’s own practice: the rooms where a barrister keeps their files, meets clients and prepares cases. It describes a lawyer who does the work personally and answers for it.

That is how Manny runs his office. When you hire Hundal Law Chambers, your matter is handled under the direction of a licensed lawyer, from the first conversation to the decision.

The practice

Immigration law comes first. Manny acts for individuals and families in Brampton and across Peel who want to bring family to Canada, stay in Canada, or fix an immigration matter that has gone wrong. The work includes:

  • Spousal and partner sponsorship
  • Parent and grandparent sponsorship, and the super visa
  • Sponsorship appeals
  • Residency obligation appeals
  • Inadmissibility hearings, including criminal and medical issues
  • Removal order appeals
  • Federal Court judicial review
  • Detention reviews
  • Visitor visas and visitor records
  • Humanitarian and compassionate applications
  • Work permit, study permit, permanent residence, refugee and citizenship files that have been refused or challenged

Insurance defence. Manny defends drivers who are sued after a car accident in Ontario when their own insurer has denied coverage or there was no insurance, and drivers an insurer is trying to recover money from. See Insurance defence.

Some criminal matters. Manny takes on some criminal matters, particularly where a charge may affect someone’s immigration status. A conviction can have serious consequences for a permanent resident or a person without status, so the two areas often need to be looked at together. See Criminal matters.

Languages

Manny consults in English, Punjabi and Hindi. You can explain your situation, and ask about your options, in the language you speak at home. Tell the office which language you prefer when you book.

Your application itself will usually need to be in English or French. Documents in other languages generally need a certified translation. Manny will tell you which documents need one.

The office

Hundal Law Chambers is at 1 Nelson Street W, Suite 200B, in downtown Brampton. It is a short walk from Brampton Innovation District GO station and the Downtown Brampton bus terminal. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with evening and weekend appointments by arrangement. See Contact for directions and parking.

How Manny works

He tells you what he sees. Some files are straightforward. Some have problems that need to be dealt with before anything is submitted. Some should not be filed yet. You will hear which it is, plainly.

No promises about outcomes. Immigration decisions are made by IRCC officers, tribunals and courts. No lawyer can guarantee a result, and Manny will not. What he can do is explain your options, prepare your case and present it.

Fees in writing. Before work starts, you get the scope and the fee in a written retainer, so you know what you are paying for.

Deadlines first. Manny tells you the deadline at the first meeting and plans the work around it.

Confidential from the start. What you tell a lawyer for the purpose of legal advice is protected by solicitor-client privilege. Before you share details of your matter, the office runs a short conflict check, to make sure Manny can act for you.
